2010 - Received trophy for 3rd in points for the year!

Hollywood Helliwell won the Roadrunner main in dramatic fashion with a last corner pass with cars spinning and going off the track. Jason Carroll led almost the entire race after taking the lead from Jen Lord in the opening laps. Carroll stretched out his lead in the first half of the race until Loren Smith Jr. reeled him in with Hollywood some car lengths behind. Carroll runs a low line on the speedway and that forces most cars to the outside for a pass and it was no different this time. Smith Jr. got to the outside of Carroll in the closing laps while Hollywood was working the inside right behind Carroll. Hollywood looked inside a few times but there wasn’t room so had to pull up behind Carroll. The trio had caught and begun passing lapped traffic by the time they got to the white flag and going into the final turns Carroll made contact with a lapped car and it spun forcing both Carroll and Smith Jr. off turn four and that allowed Hollywood to get by for the win. Also getting by was Louie Maher who finished second and Johnny Reefer who came home third. Carroll made it over the line in fourth and Jef James was fifth. Sixth through tenth were Eric Miller, Jamie Swallow, Jesse Tellier, Leon Keniston and Bob Fields. Maher and Jen Lord won the heats.

Hollywood Helliwell picked up his sixth feature win and twelfth straight top 5 in the Roadrunners since his debut in July. Loren Smith Jr. had the lead most of the race but Helliwell was stalking him as laps dwindled down. A late race caution bunched the field for a restart and Smith Jr. was able to hold off Helliwell for a few laps. With two to go Helliwell got a run off turn two and slipped past Smith Jr. and went on to win. Johnny Reefer also got past Smith Jr. for second. Smith Jr. finished a disappointing third. Jef James was fourth followed by Jason Carroll, Derek Griffith, Nick Maniatis, Louie Maher, Tony Page and Jim Fissette. Hudson NH’s own Derek Griffith was quick to grab the lead in the Roadrunner main and put some distance between him and the rest of the pack early on. At the halfway point Griffith held a good lead but was coming up on lapped traffic. Traffic was a nightmare for Griffith as slower cars were running side-by-side battling for position and to stay on the lead lap and Griffith had to use his chrome horn to dispatch of a few. A late race caution for Jef James’ off road experience bunched the field up for a restart. Dave Helliwell was over Griffith’s bumper for the remaining laps but wasn’t able to pass Griffith. Helliwell was second followed by Jason Carroll, “Lugnut” Louie Maher, Myles Devits, James, Loren Smith Jr., Jen Lord, Peter Raby and Nick Fissette Sr.

“Hollywood” Dave Helliwell took home another first place trophy in the Roadrunners. Points leader Louie Maher brought his almost newly built and almost painted Honda closer to being back in the winners circle with a second place finish. Jef James finished third in his “Jen” sponsored Honda for his sixth 2010 podium finish. Johnny Reefer and Jason Carroll were fourth and fifth respectively. Sixth through tenth were Myles Devits, Scott Dunklee, Jen Lord, Nick Fissette Sr., and Matt Lombardi. Maher and Helliwell won the heats.

September 12, 2010

Eric Miller led the early laps of the Roadrunner main. Derek Griffith had the car to beat but was put to the rear on a restart after contact with Miller sent Miller spinning while challenging for the lead. Dave Helliwell took command of the race a few laps later and looked like he was headed for another win but got run off the track when he was passing a lapped car giving the lead to the one and only Johnny Reefer. Reefer was able to pick up his second win of the 2010 season holding off second place Jef James and a charging Griffith in third. Helliwell was fourth followed by Louie Maher, Miller, Jason Carroll, Todd Henshaw, Mark Dunklee and Jeff Gilman. Griffith and James won the heats. Louie Maher won the Roadrunner main in his newly built, not yet painted, and really ugly Honda. Dave Helliwell and Derek Griffith finished second and third respectively. Jason Carroll drove his pink, blue, brown and usually sideways Infinity to a fourth place finish. Fifth was Johnny Reefer. Jef James finished sixth followed by Jen Lord, Eric Miller, Jeff Gilman, and Peter Raby.

September 5, 2010

Derek Griffith led most of the Roadrunner feature keeping hotshoe Dave Helliwell a few car lengths behind. With two laps to go, the top two caught slower cars and split a lapped car and Helliwell slipped past Griffith. Griffith gave it all he had to try and get back past Helliwell but had to settle for second crossing the finish line bumper to bumper with Helliwell. Eric Miller had a fine run to garner his first podium finish since May in third place. Johnny Reefer was fourth followed by Jef James, Loren Smith Jr., Jason Carroll, Tony Page, Myles Devits and Jesse Tellier.

August 29, 2010

Dave Helliwell won his third feature of the year in the Roadrunners. The rest of the top ten were Louie Maher, Jef James, Derek Griffith, Jason Carroll, Eric Miller, Matt Lombardi, Jesse Tellier, Jen Lord and Peter Raby.

Press Release for Hudson Speedway - August 15, 2010

Mahers luck ran out in Roadrunner feature when he was caught up in an early race wreck that took out the rides of Eric Miller, Matt Lombard, Mark Dunklee and Maher. Once racing resumed after the wreck Johnny Reefer found himself leading the race with Dave Helliwell on his bumper and Derek Griffith on Helliwell’s bumper. The racing really heated up when the trio caught slower cars and they sliced and split their way through traffic. Reefer made the right choices in traffic and was able to pickup his first win in 2010. Helliwell held on for second and Griffith was third. Loren Smith Jr. chased down and caught the top three in the closing laps and crossed the finish line within a car length of Griffith in fourth place. Jef James was just a few car lengths behind Smith Jr. in fifth. Sixth through tenth were Jason Carroll, Tony Page, Myles Devits, Jen Lord and Peter Raby. Derek Griffith and Dave Helliwell won the heats.

Press Release for Hudson Speedway - August 8, 2010

Matt Lombardi led the first five circuits of the Roadrunner feature before Dave Helliwell took over. Helliwell led until last season’s Roadrunner champ Louie Maher got past him. The final third of the race saw those two nose to tail with Helliwell doing all he could to get past Maher but Maher ran flawlessly and past under the checkers a half a car length in front of Helliwell. Helliwell finished second. Johnny Reefer had a fine run and garnered his first podium finish of the year in third place. Last weeks winner Jason Carroll finished fourth followed by Jef James, Erik Miller, Derek Griffith, Myles Devits, Lombardi and Mark Dunklee.

Press Release for Hudson Speedway - August 1, 2010 - Jason's first WIN!

From the Hudson race report: Jason Carroll won his first career win in the caution-free Roadrunner feature. Carroll started on the front row and quickly built a large lead. By the halfway point of the race the usual frontrunners led by Louie Maher had made it past slower cars and began reeling in Carroll. Maher got to Carroll’s bumper with five to go and tried high and low in closing laps but couldn’t find a way past Carroll. Carroll survived being knocked a bit sideways twice in the closing laps to bring the Angry Pork Racing Infinti G20 home in first place. Second through tenth were Maher, Loren Smith Jr., Dave Helliwell, Derek Griffith, Jef James, Don Soucy, Myles Devits, Matt Lombardi and Eric Miller. Maher and James won the heats.

Hudson race report is HERE
I have to apologize, I've been slacking on the race updates the past few weeks.  To summarize, the new transmission without a limited slip is not helping get us trophies - the Infiniti has had some issues with 2nd gear pop-out - a bunch of really awesome friends helped install some new air ducting, front spoiler, rear wing & some vents for the hood - Ted welded an exhaust leak, mounts & a control arm to help with camber - after all of this work the car runs GREAT, but we got stuck behind a slow car and didn't do well this past race.

July 4, 2010

Happy Independence Day!  This Sunday started out well with Jason Carroll moving from fifth position to first in the beginning of the race.  Without any cautions to let the car cool down, the 07 Infiniti lost power again as it did on the May 31st race - it seems we still don't have that issue resolved yet!  Jason Carroll moved back from first to sixth (we think) as the normal group of "fast" cars flew by.

Next weekend is a double points weekend.  Hopefully we can get the car back in shape again to make up some of the points we lost this weekend.  If we aren't able to resolve the overheating/power loss issue then let's cross our fingers for a lot of cautions so the car has a lot of chances to cool down!  Sir George the Fierce will be joining us from now on - we have just been told that dogs are allowed at the track (in the pit area only).

June 27, 2010

The past week was spent figuring out why all of the transmission fluid dumped out of the 07 Inifiniti during the 6/20 heat.  We were able to get back on the track this week due to help from Craig Swinehart who helped remove the transmission and Rob Murphy (a co-worker of Jessie's at Wagner BMW of Shrewsbury) who helped install the replacement transmission.  Thanks so much for your help!  This week was a double feature event.  The Infiniti got a flat tire during the first race right before a caution & was able to get back out before the green flag thanks to some racers & crew from other race teams jumped in quickly to help Jessie get the tire changed quickly!  Jason Carroll ended 8th in the first race.  The second race went a little better with a 4th place finish.

The hole we found inside of the transmission:

June 20, 2010

Father's Day started out exciting as the Infiniti felt fast & was handling great in the heat.  About halfway though the heat smoke started pouring out of the car.  Jason Carroll wasn't able to see the smoke & kept going to finish second in the heat.  As Jason pulled in to be weighed we discovered the transmission fluid pouring out under the center of the car.  Thinking it was just an axle that popped out (this wouldn't be a first time occurrence for that), we jacked up the car expecting to get it right back on the track for the race.  Instead, we found the axle dry & fluid coming from elsewhere on the transmission.  After this discovery, Leon Keniston (driver of the 13k 4-cyl enduro car), offered to let Jason do a couple laps with is car in the race in order to salvage at least a few points.  We taped an "07" over the "13k" and did just that.  The rest of this week will be spent removing the transmission in order to find the leak so the Infiniti can get back out on the track next weekend!

Jason Carroll was able to pull ahead of the field into first place after a restart, but not without upsetting the 66 car in the middle while passing.  The Inifiniti lost power while leading the field and fell back to a disappointing sixth place to end the Memorial Day weekend.  Right now, unsure of why the Infiniti lost power, we will be making some small changes to the Infiniti in hopes that this won't happen again.

This race wasn't as successful as the past two after a collision with the 11x in the first feature & lost power due to a failed plug wire in the second feature while battling for third place.  The combined finish for this double feature event put the 07 Infiniti in fifth place.  The overall points standing was bumped to 4th this weekend (previously 3rd in points).  The faulty plug wire has been replaced & the bumper has been secured.  A new fender may be in the near future, but the next race will be run with the damaged one.  Thanks to Kevin Foote who helped crew for us this weekend!
